Absence seizure (petit mal seizure)

Absence seizures (petit mal epilepsy) are more common in children. It is a short, sudden loss of consciousness, usually seen as staring eyes. Absence seizures often last for only a few seconds. No unconsciousness symptoms are found after the recovery. It is often noticed after repeated onset for weeks or months. Ethosuximide, valproic acid, lamotrigine, piperazine etc. can be used for treating absence seizures.
