Acute coccidioidomycosis (valley fever)

Acute coccidioidomycosis, also known as Valley fever, is a disease caused by fungus infection. The symptoms resemble bronchitis or pneumonia. Symptoms include fatigue, fever, cough, headache, rash, muscle pain, and joint pain. The classic symptoms of acute coccidioidomycosis include fever, joint pains, and erythema nodosum. For people with weakened immune system, serious complications may occur. Patients with mild symptoms usually do not need any treatment. Patients with severe symptoms often need anti-fungal treatment. Acute coccidioidomycosis is endemic in California and southwest US and northern Mexico.
