Acute porphyrias

Porphyria is a group of genetic diseases caused by buildup of porphyria. The nervous system and skin are affected. The spinal cord is often affected, causing leg pain, leg paralysis or arm paralysis. If the brain is affected, you will have neurological, psychiatric and autonomic symptoms such as abdominal pain and high blood pressure. Rash, herpes, and even ulcer can appear on the exposed skin. It scars when it heals, causing deformation and pigmentation. Porphyria is caused by gene mutations. This mutation can be induced by excessive alcohol drinking and environmental pollution. Generally porphyria cannot be cured. Certain lifestyle changes can control the disease progression.
