Acute sinusitis

Acute sinusitis is an acute suppurative inflammation of the sinus mucosa. It is usually caused by the common cold. Other factors include bacteria, allergens and fungal infections. Symptoms include persistent purulent nasal discharge, nasal congestion, difficulty breathing (because of nasal congestion), facial swelling and tenderness, headache and cough. Cough may get worse at night. Most acute sinusitis patients can be cured in a short period time by using appropriate antibiotics and other drugs. A small number of cases may develop into chronic sinusitis or eye or head complications.
