Baker's cyst

A Baker's cyst is a protrusion in the back of knee due to knee joint liquid effusion. Baker's cyst is a benign cyst and will not turn into a malignant tumor. Any factor making the knee joint producing too much lubricating fluid can lead to Baker's cyst. Popliteal (back of knee) swelling and difficulty to bend knees are the most common symptoms. If the cyst bursts, the fluid will flow into the lower leg and pressing leg muscles, causing tenderness. Non-surgical treatment is usually the most effective. If non-surgical treatment is unsuccessful, patients can consider removal of the cyst.
