Bunion is a bony bump on the inner side of foot and at the base of big toe. It is not caused by impact or bone bending. Sometimes bunion is combined with hard skin or calluses. The base of the big toe and foot bulbar part have redness, swelling and abnormal tenderness. Bunion can be genetic. It can also be caused by wearing tight ill-fitting shoes for a long time. Various therapies to relieve pain and inflammation may used for treating bunion. Women should avoid wearing high-heeled or pointed shoes.
