Burning mouth syndrome

Burning mouth syndrome is a disease that you feel burning pain on the oral mucosa. The onset is usually progressive. For most patients, the burning sensation is usually located on the tip, side or back of the tongue, upper palate and internal lip mucosa. But the burning sensation can also occur in any part of the mouth. Patients have a similar feeling as being burned by hot food, as well sour, bitter or metallic taste. Patients can also feel mouth dryness. Incidence is higher in menopausal or post-menopausal women. However it can also affect men, premenopausal women or perimenopausal women. The etiology of this disease is not clear. There is still no specific treatment method yet. Symptomatic treatment tries to eliminate local stimulation. If pain is severe, analgesic drugs can be used.
