Catatonic schizophrenia is a mental illness. The prominent symptom is alternating nervous excitement and tension stupor, or mainly tension stupor with occasional nervous excitement. It is generally believed that catatonic schizophrenia is the type with best prognosis among all types of schizophrenia. Some patients may have spontaneous remission. After treatment, symptoms usually go away thoroughly. Residual symptoms are minor and relapse is rare. Some patients have only one episode in the whole life.
