Celiac disease is also known as gluten enteropathy. It is closely related with consumption of wheat flour. Patients are very sensitive to flour foods containing gluten. Symptoms during infancy or childhood include growth retardation, weight loss, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, bloating and irritability. Common symptoms in adults are fatigue, weight loss, nausea, loss of appetite, bloating and loose stools. Female patients may also have little menstruation, premature menopause and infertility. No drug can treat celiac disease. Patients should avoid eating foods containing wheat gluten, such as products made from barley, wheat, oats and rye.
