Cervical dystonia

Cervical dystonia is also called spasmodic torticollis, which afffects your neck. Dystonia is caused by involuntary sustained muscle contraction, resulting in muscle deformation. According to the location, it can be divided into limited, segmental, unilateral and systemic types. Cervical dystonia affects neck muscles. Patient's head will unconsciously turn to one side and tilt back or forward involuntarily. No drug can cure dystonia. Sedative drugs can partly improve the symptoms and alleviate the mood. Available drugs include Artane, clonazepam, nitrazepam, baclofen, droperidol and tetrabenazine. However, the results are not very satisfactory. Effect of surgical treatment is uncertain either.
