Chronic sinusitis

Sinusitis symptoms include persistently stuffy nose, pus-like nasal discharge, postnasal drip, cough, facial swelling and tenderness, and headache (especially the forehead and between the eyebrows). Fever is uncommon. If the symptoms persist for more than three months, it is called chronic sinusitis. Chronic sinusitis may cause reduced sensation of smell. Patients with mild symptoms can take oral antibiotics combined with astringents, mucosal enzymes, steroid spray (for nasal polyps) to cure chronic sinusitis. For most patients surgery is required. Doctors use endoscope to enter the nose, and conduct sinus surgery. The blocked sinuses are opened to clear the polyps and pus. Nasal rinse is also an effective way to relieve sinusitis symptoms.
