Coarctation of the aorta is a common congenital cardiovascular malformation. Part of the aorta is narrow and causes blood flow issues. If patients have no other congenital cardiovascular malformations, they usually have no symptoms. They are found often during physical exam because they have symptoms such as arm high blood pressure, weakened or disappeared femoral pulse, heart murmur or abnormal chest X-ray. Once you are diagnosed aorta coarctation, surgery should be done to relieve aortic obstruction in order to restore blood pressure.
