Cold urticaria is an allergic reaction of skin to low temperature. After skin is exposed to cold air or water, the skin develop local itching edema within several minutes. The condition can lasts for 30 to 60 minutes. It will be relieved after the skin is warmed. Swimming in cold water is the most common cause of severe cold urticarial. It can cause serious systemic reactions, leading to fainting, shock and even death. Mild cold urticaria does not need treatment and it will disappear after you are no longer exposed to cold air or water. If symptoms are severe, area of edema is large, itching is intese, or they are accompanied by dizziness, nausea, vomiting and other symptoms, you need to seek immediate medical attention.
