Cystitis is inflammation of bladder. It is more common in women than men. Most of the time, the inflammation is due to bacterial infection, which is the so-called urinary tract infections. Symptoms include frequent urination, urgent urination, burning urination or pain during urination and blood in urine. Generally there is no obvious symptom of systemic poisoning. A small number of patients also have low back pain and fever. Acute cystitis usually develops very quickly. You may have severe symptoms within half a day and it may spread to kidneys within several days (acute pyelonephritis). Antibiotic therapy is the main treatment for urinary tract infections including cystitis.
