Pancreas secretes insulin to break down blood sugar. When the body lacks insulin, there will be too much sugar (glucose) in the blood, a condition called hyperglycemia. If the patient's body lacks of insulin or insulin loses its function, blood sugar cannot be absorbed by cells but stay in the blood. The excessive blood sugar will be discharged into urine. Typical symptoms of diabetes include increased amount of urine, drinking more, eating more, and weight loss. Blood sugar level is increased and glucose can be detected in urine. Diabetes can lead to many complications in kidneys, eyes, feet and other body parts. Diabetes cannot be cured. It is a lifelong disease. Patients should control diet, exercise regularly and take medication or get injection regularly.Therapeutic drugs including oral hypoglycemic agents and insulin injections.
