Diabetes can destroy retina blood vessels and make retina lacking of oxygen. Retinopathy is a common cause of blindness. Initially diabetic retinopathy has no symptoms. In the late stage, it causes vascular lesion resulting in retinal fibrosis, vitreous body bleeding and blurred vision. It can also lead to secondary retinal detachment and glaucoma. The incidence of diabetic retinopathy increases with length of diabetes history. As diabetic retinopathy can lead to blindness, prevention and early detection are very important. Treatment of diabetic retinopathy includes laser therapy, vitreous body clearing surgery and retinal surgery.
