Dilated cardiomyopathy is a heart muscle disease. The left or right ventricle has dilated significantly, accompanied with varying degrees of cardiac hypertrophy and ventricular systolic dysfunction. Patients may have a hint of chest pain but typical angina is uncommon. Sometimes arrhythmia can cause syncope or systemic embolism. A small number of patients with the disease may develop arrhythmia, blood clots, or sudden death. Cause of the disease is unknown. There is no cure for the disease yet except heart transplant.
