Down syndrome is a genetic disease caused by an extra chromosome. Infants with Down syndrome have flat face, long and narrow eyes, and wide nose. Back of the head is flat, and the body is particularly soft. The little finger is shorter and there is only one stripe on the palm. Patients have mental retardation and slow physical development. Many Down syndrome babies also have congenital defects in heart or other organs. This disease is congenital and has no cure yet.
