Dystonia

Dystonia is a neurological movement disorder. It is a pathological change of skeletal muscle tension. Sometimes the muscle tension is high and sometimes it is low. Sometimes it affects only a partial muscle or muscle group and sometimes it affects the whole body. Typical symptom is rapid head rotation. When head rotation stops, it is skew intermittently or persistently. No drug can cure dystonia. Sedative drugs can alleviate the mood tension and partly improve the symptoms. Antin, clonazepam, nitrazepam, baclofen, haloperidol and butylbenzene triazine can be used, but the results are not very satisfactory. Some have serious side effects. Stereotactic neurosurgery may be the only means of treating the symptoms.
