Emphysema refers to a group of chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD). It is primarily caused by chronic bronchitis. Symptoms include shortness of breath, and cough along with sputum. Smoking is the main cause of pulmonary emphysema. Treatment can slow the progress of the disease, but cannot not reverse the damage.
