Fulminant colitis is the most severe form of ulcerative colitis. Fulminant colitis develops very fast and is life threatening. It impacts the entire colon and causes severe pain, diarrhea, dehydration, and even shock. The colon can becomes severely distended, resulting in dangerous complications such as colon rupture and toxic megacolon.
