Tularemia is an infectious disease affecting both human and mammals (especially rabbits). Symptoms include fever, swollen lymph nodes, skin ulcers, eye redness, respiratory and gastrointestinal inflammation and toxemia, etc. The onset is usually acute and body temperature can reach 39 to 40C (102-104 F). Fever can last for 1-2 weeks or even several months. Streptomycin is the first drug of choice. If patient has complication of meningitis, chloramphenicol can be used too. Oxygen should be given to pneumonia patients. Do not squeeze the swollen lymph nodes. Do not cut and drain the swollen lymph nodes if there is no abscess.
