Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS)

Hemolytic uremic syndrome is a diseases characterized by acute kidney injury and platelet count decline. The cause is unknown. It is more common in infants and young children. Symptoms include fever, thrombocytopenia, microvascular hemolytic anemia, hypertension and acute renal failure. Pre-onset symptoms are diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting and loss of appetite for several days. There is no effective treatment. Some cases may improve spontaneously.
