Histoplasmosis

Histoplasmosis is most often seen in the Mississippi River and the Ohio River areas of USA. Histoplasmosis fungus spores are often found in bird droppings. Cleaning-up or demolition works make these spores spread by wind, which is the most common form of dissemination of histoplasmosis. When people inhale spores of the bacteria, it first causes pulmonary infection. The disease is self-healing and most patients do not need treatment. For those with weak immunity, pulmonary lesions may develop and the fungus may spread throughout the body via lymph or blood. Prevention methods include not contacting dust which may have animals and bird feces. If your workplace has dust, wear a mask or spray water in areas which may have fungal spores.
