HIV or AIDS

AIDS is a chronic and potentially life-threatening illness caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). HIV mainly exists in blood, semen, vaginal secretions and breast milk of those who are infected. The route of transmission includes sexual behavior, intravenous drug use, mother-to-child transmission, and using blood and blood products. Everyone is susceptible. High risk population includes gays, intravenous drug users, people who have sex with those infected with HIV, frequent users of blood transfusions and blood products, and babies born to infected mothers. There is no effective cure for AIDS yet, but medications can significantly slow down the progression of the disease.
