Hives and angioedema

Hives, also known as urticaria, is a disease with sudden skin swelling, itching, burning or tingling. It will subside in a few minutes or a few hours. Angioedema is large-scale swelling in subcutaneous tissue or mucous membranes, which often occurs along with hives. In most cases, urticaria and angioedema are harmless. Even if it is not treated, it will not cause any lasting scars. The most common medication of urticaria and angioedema is antihistamine. Severe angioedema involving the upper respiratory tract may block your throat and is life-threatening.
