Impetigo contagiosa

Impetigo contagiosa, which means contagious impetigo, is the most common form of impetigo. It usually begins as a red sore near the nose or mouth. The sore soon breaks, leaking pus or fluid. After the sore breaks, a honey-colored scab forms. After the scab goes away, a red mark forms. Then it heals without leaving a scar. Sores are not painful but may be itchy. Lymph nodes in the affected area may be swollen. This disesea is highly contagious. Just touching or scratching the sores may easily spread the infection to other parts of the body. Therefore patients should avoid touching or scratching it. Otherwise, sterilize your hands with hand sanitizer after each touching or scratching. Mild cases can be treated using bactericidal ointment such as mupirocin ointment. More severe cases require oral antibiotics, such as dicloxacillin, flucloxacillin, or erythromycin.
