Lactose intolerance

Lactose intolerance is also known as lactose indigestion or lactose malabsorption. It is because your small intestine does not produce enough lactase, an enzyme needed for digesting lactose (milk sugar). When there is not enough lactase, milk lactose cannot be fully digested and absorbed, which cause mild diarrhea. Some people have enough lactase in the body but do not drink milk often, they may also have diarrhea when drinking milk. It is also a symptom of lactose intolerance. Symptoms of lactose intolerance appear only after you drink a certain amount of milk. For most people with lactose intolerance, drinking less than 6.7 ounce (200 ml) milk a day usually does not cause any problem. Drinking lactose-free milk is also an option.
