Legg Calve Perthes disease

Legg Calve Perthes disease is a childhood disease that the ball-and-socket hip joint is affected. Blood flow to the ball part of the joint may be temporarily interrupted and the ball part may begin to die. Signs and symptoms of Legg Calve Perthes disease include limping, hip pain, groin pain, thigh pain, and limited range of motion at the hip joint. Diagnosis needs X-ray, MRI or bone scan. Young children often needs observation and symptomatic treatment. Older children often need surgery to improve the shape of the hip joint. Most severe cases need hip replacement later in life.
