Lewy body dementia

Lewy body dementia affects the elderly more often than the young. It is a progressive dementia. Symptoms include muscle spasm, muscle contraction disorder, swallowing disorder, sleep disorder, and autonomic nervous system disorders, such as frequent falls, syncope, or transient loss of consciousness. The cause is unknown. Prognosis is poor. Lewy body dementia patients are very sensitive to the side effects of antipsychotic drugs so they should be avoided. There is no effective way to prevent it. Treatment focus on relieving symptoms.
