Lymphedema

Lymphedema is a type of edema (liquid build-up). It usually occurs in cancer patients whose lymph nodes are removed or damaged because of cancer treatment. The lymphatic system gets blocked and lymph liquid build up in arms or legs, which cause arm or leg swelling. Symptoms include arm or leg swelling, arm or leg aching or discomfort, recurrent arm or leg infections, and hardening and sickening of arm or leg skin. There is no cure. Treatment aims at reducing the swelling and relieving the pain.
