Menstrual cramps

Menstrual cramps are cramping pains in the lower abdomen associated with menstruation. Menstrual pain usually affect a women right before or during the menstrual periods. The degree of pain varies greatly from mild discomfort to severe pain. The pain can be relieved by pain relievers such as ibuprofen, naproxen sodium, mefenamic acid, or acetaminophen. Hormonal birth control methods can also be used to reduce the pain. If menstrual cramps are caused by underlying diseases such as endometriosis or fibroids, they can be surgially removed. For women who do not plan to have child, surgical removal of uterus is an option too.
