When people age, the cognitive ability declines. Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) means that your cognitive ability declines more than normal but not to the degree of dementia. You family member may notice the change in your memory or behavior change. But the changes are not severe enough to affect your daily life. Cholinesterase inhibitors, a drug used for Alzheimer's disease, can be used for people with MCI whose main symptom is memory loss. Treating underlying conditions such as high blood pressure, depression or sleep apnea may also help your memory and overall mental functions.
