Morphea refers to localized hard skin disease. Morphea usually begins as whitish plaque with purple borders, looking like bruising. Morphea is not contagious. It rarely develops into systemic scleroderma (hard skin disease). Morphea can be treated but cannot not cured. If lesion is small, sub-skin injection of procaine and corticosteroid suspension can be used. Fluorinated corticosteroid preparations can also be used. If limbs are affected, physical therapy can be used. Oral vitamin E can be beneficial too.
