Oral lichen planus

Oral lichen planus is a common chronic oral mucosal disease. It is generally not contagious. The disease often occurs in mid-age person. Women are at higher risk than men. Most often patients have no symptoms and the disease is discovered accidentally. Some patients have burning sense in mouth when eating spicy, hot, sour or salty food. Some patients feel roughness, taste of wood, and dryness in the mouth. Patients with congestive erosion have eating pain. This disease is a precancerous lesion, but the rate turning into a cancer is less than 1%. The cause is not clear yet and there is still no cure either.
