Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA)

Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is a common type of congenital heart disease in children. During fetal period, patent ductus arteriosus is an important passage of blood circulation. The duct gradually closes from 15 hours after birth and closes completely within 1 year of birth. If it does not close and causes symptoms, it is called patent ductus arteriosus. A small patent ductus arteriosus generally does not cause symptoms and does not need treatment. Large patent ductus arteriosus can cause complications such as heart failure so it should be fixed by surgery.
