Placental abruption refers to placenta getting partially or completely stripped off from uterus wall before baby is born. Placental abruption can cause heavy bleeding, premature birth or fetus death. Patient will have vaginal bleeding in most cases. If it is close to due date, delivery should be done as soon as possible. That's true even if placental abruption area is very small because it can widen at any time. In most cases, caesarean section should be conducted.
