Pneumothorax

Pneumothorax is a condition that air enters the gap between lungs and chest wall. Pleural cavity pressure increases, or even turns from negative pressure to positive pressure. It compresses lungs and hampers blood flow into heart, resulting in various degrees of heart and lung dysfunction. If only a small amount of air enters pleural cavity without complication, usually it can heal itself. When there is a large amount of air, a drainage pipe or drainage needle will be inserted between ribs to slowly discharge the air.
