Postpartum psychosis is a severe form of postpartum depression. It usually begins suddenely in the first two weeks after delivery. Symptoms include confusion, hallucination and delusions, paranoia, and even attempts to harm yourself or your baby. It is regarded as a psychitric emergency. In most cases, hospitalization is necessary. Antipsychotic drugs and mood stabilizers such as litium are typically used.
