Primary aldosteronism

Primary aldosteronism is caused by adrenal cortex producing too much aldosterone. It has symptoms of hypertension and hypokalemia. Too much aldosterone makes the body losing potassium and accumulating sodium. Diagnosis and treatment is very important, because this form of high blood pressure has a higher risk of heart disease and stroke. Primary aldosteronism can be treated with spironolactone. Surgical removal of one adrenal gland has a cure rate of up to 70% -90%.
