Primary syphilis

Syphilis is caused by infection of a bacteria-like microbe. Usually it is transmitted through sex contacts. Early symptoms are painless small nodules on outer genitals, mouth or other body parts. Then ulcers form on nodules. If left untreated, it can damage heart and brain, and increases the chance of acquiring HIV. It can be passed from pregnant mother to fetus. Syphilis is easy to cure during the early stages. The most commonly medication is penicillin. Treatment can prevent lesions, but cannot repair lesions that have already occurred.
