Progeria

Progeria is a premature aging disease. If affects more boys than girls. The development is normal during the first year after birth. After that there are very early aging changes, which is very incompatible with the age. Patients often have under-development with bones, teeth, nails, hair and fat tissue. Intelligence is usually normal, but blood lipids level is elevated. Production of growth hormone decreases by 50%. There is no specific treatment for the disease yet. Physical therapy, massage and exercise can improve mobility. Most patients will have arteriosclerosis and die after 10 years old because of myocardial infarction or cerebrovascular disease. The age of death varies from 7 to 37 years old, with average of 13.4 years old.
