Pseudogout

Pseudogout is a joint disease. It is often seen in the elderly. The onset is sudden. Symptoms include joint redness, swelling, warmth and pain. Liquid accumulates in joint cavity. Knee joint is the most often affected. Hip, ankle, shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints may also be affected. If the disease lasts very long, multiple joints can be affected. Both sides of the body are affected. Anti-inflammatory drugs can be used. The joint liquid can be extracted and doctors inject hormone into the joint cavity when necessary. If joint destruction is severe, joint membrane can be removed surgically or the whole joint is replaced.
