Diabetes patients often suffer from nerve damage. Radiculoplexus neuropathy, also known as diabetic amyotrophy, is a type of diabetic neuropathy. It affects nerves in the thighs, hips, buttocks or legs. You may have sudden, severe pain in hip, thigh or buttock. When the thigh muscles get weakened and atrophied, you will have difficulty rising from a sitting position. You may also have abdominal swelling if the abdomen is also affected. There is no known cure for diabetic neuropathy. Treatment aims at slowing progression of the disease, relieving symptoms, managing complications, and restoring functions.
