Rett syndrome

Rett syndrome is a disease which seriously affects psychomotor development of children. It almost exclusively affects girls. Most babies with Rett syndrome seem to develop normally. However, from 6-18 months old on, as time goes by, patients have symproms of progressive mental decline, autism behavior, not being able to use hands, rigid movement, and poor coordination. In addition to the above symptoms, seizure is also common. Its etiology and mode of inheritance are still unclear. There is no cure yet.
