Roseola

Roseola is a mild virus infection which often affects children under 2 years of age. The rash usually starts from chest, back and abdomen, and then spread to neck and arm. It may also spread to legs and face. It lasts for several hours to several days, and then disappears on its own. Children usually have a sudden high fever which lasts for 3-7 days. Anti-fever drugs should be given if patient has fever. However, aspirin should be avoided because aspirin may cause very serious Reye's syndrome. There is no specific treatment for roseola yet. Antibiotics generally has no effect.


How is Roseola treated in practice?
