Rotavirus

Rotavirus is one of the main pathogens causing infantile diarrhea. Most children are infected for one or more times before 2-3 years old. The first symptom of rotavirus infection is fever, followed by continuous watery diarrhea and vomiting. Patient also has abdominal pain. Severe diarrhea can lead to dehydration. There is no specific treatment for rotavirus infection. Antibiotic treatment is usually ineffective for virus infection. Rotavirus infection will generally subside on its own in 3-8 days. Patient should drink enough water in order to prevent dehydration after infection. Rotavirus infection often occurs in winter and spring. The virus is transmitted from for feces to mouth. Washing hand is the best preventive measure. Rotavirus vaccine can protect children from infection.
