Sarcoidosis is a granulomatous disease involving multiple organs and tissues. Lung and lymph nodes inside chest are the most often affected. During the early stage there are usually no symptoms. Extensive lesions can cause chest tightness, shortness of breath and even cyanosis. The condition may get worse if the patient has infection, emphysema, bronchiectasis or pulmonary heart disease. Sarcoidosis involving other organs can cause corresponding signs and symptoms. For example, muscle granuloma can cause local swelling and pain. Sarcoidosis is a self-limiting disease and the prognosis for most patients is good. Glucocorticoid is the main drug used for treating sarcoidosis.
