Septic arthritis

Septic arthritis is a type of arthritis caused by pus-causing bacteria infection. The joint structure may be destroyed so the joint loses its function. It usually involves only one joint, such as knee or elbow joint. Young children and older people are more prone to have septic arthritis. The main symptoms of septic arthritis at acute phase include sudden chills, fever, severe swelling and pain at the infected joint, along with severe systemic symptoms. Treatment includes antibiotic medication and joint drainage.
