Sex headaches

Sex headaches refer to headaches caused by sexual activities. It is a benign functional headache without physical brain lesion. Emotional stress is a common triggering factor. As excitement increases, patients have dull pain or tenderness on both sides of head. The pain is very intense when orgasm is reached. Generally headache continues for half an hour to one day. You should stop intercourse immediately and rest if you have sex headache. Sex should be avoided in the next couple of days. It can be prevented by propranolol, indomethacin, or muscle relaxants. If you have high blood pressure and suddenly have severe headache during sex, but you never have sex headaches before, you should consider the possibility of brain bleeding. You should see a doctor immediately to clarify the cause.
